hey what's up...this has been the subject of a lot of debate with my parents, but I was wondering how these two schools compare in terms of social life/academic quality/preparation for pre-med/total undergraduate experience...i always thought brown was my top choice, but my parents really want me to go to columbia...i do live about 10 minutes outside of NYC...

congratulations dejae. i also got accepted to Brown, and it's interesting about the two schools. we can debate, and debate, and debate but the wonderful thing about this "debate" is that the two schools are on the opposite sides of the spectrum. i am going to brown, because i am also pre-med, and i think brown will better prepare me due to the open curriculum. i love providence, and i also think that that's the type of undergrad experience i want. columbia is nice, but on a personal level -- columbia and new york city will probably be better suited for my graduate school. good luck on your decision, hope this helps in some way.

Hey, I'll be attending Columbia next year as a freshman. As 1214 said, the two schools are on the opposite ends of the spectrum. Brown has an open curriculum while Columbia has a much more structured one. Brown is a relatively smaller city, while NYC is a huge city. I guess you should just judge which you prefer. Open curriculum or core curriculum, providence or nyc...
