I just wanted to discuss schools in Canada. I've only heard of McGill, Queens and U of Toronto. How do these schools compare to those in the US? Are there any other good ones? Is it hard to get into them if you are from the US? Is the language barrier in Quebec a problem? Any comments about Canadian schools would be great

I applied to McGill and got in. It was ranked as one of the top ten schools in the world by a newspaper in England ranking it along Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Oxford, and Cambridge. It has certain requiments though. If you get below a 1240 on the SAT, they wont even consider you're application and they "recommend" that you have an A- average. I am going there and I heard that people have an amazing time there as well as in Montreal. I fully recommend it.

Thanks for the replies. I have heard McGill is a lot of fun. But Princeton Review lists it as the type of school w/ lots of red tape, huge classes, no class discussion...etc. Did you visit any classes Youngdude? I had no idea McGill was that good of a school.
I've never heard of McMaster anybody with info?
Thanks again,
Anna
btw- the canadia was a joke I'm stupid, but not that stupid!

There is also University of British Columbia and University of Victoria. Both considered good. Victoria is a beautiful place to go to school. The best thing about US citizens going to college in Canada is the favorable exchange rate making the tuition there very low compared to here.

U of T is probably the best overall university in Canada. *Drawback: professors are only interested in research not teaching, huge classes, large Asian population (particularly Chinese) which poses a problem because of Canada's multicultural policy (students of the same ethnicity clique together and speak their own language) causing a lot of segregation
Waterloo is the best in Canada for Engineering and CompSci.
McMaster is in Hamilton, Ontario. It has a good reputation in Canada.
Its very tough to get into Canadian schools (especially ones in Ontario) this year because of the "double cohort" (getting rid of grade 13) wherein both the grade 12's and grade 13's are graduating (thus twice as many students).

Is the "double cohort" still going to be an issue next year?

The "double cohort" might still be an issue next year because apparently around half of the grade 12's are staying for another schoolyear. A lot of the 12th graders that don't get in will stay another year to bring their marks up and take more courses. Thus there will be an overflow of students. It will probably take a few years to get it back to normal again.
