Can anybody with personal experience (ie currently in or have attended that school) or with access to usnews.com premium help me rate the following colleges on their undergrad business programs?

Boston University - School of Management

Carnegie Mellon University - School of Industrial Administration

Georgetown University - Robert Emmett McDonough School of Business

University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

Any assistance would be appreciated and any explanation of your rankings would be great as well. Thanks.

Those schools were the ones I applied to and got in (except for Georgetown, which I haven't recieved a decision from yet). I didn't apply to Stern since I live in NYC and don't intend on going to college in NY State (got get away from the parents!).

Can you offer any comments about the relative strengths of those four programs? BU is on the bottom of the list but offered me almost a free ride financially. (I will of course, do some research on my own but this is just to get me started while I wait for Georgetown's decision).

Thanks again.

The University of Michigan has the very best business program. Trust me, it has an EXCELLENT reputation nationwide...it is ranked in at LEAST the top 5 in the nation.

The problem with Michigan though is that it is quite easy to get into: if you are already in the University of Michigan (not that hard) you have about a 50% chance of getting admitted to their business program junior year. Not only that, but I'm not sure how large the program is - it may be good but that 'goodness' gets diluted when there are thousands of others in the same program competing for the same professors, resources etc. The other schools I mentioned are smaller overall (UMich passes 20k people undergrad) Does anybody have personal experience?

I have heard the UNC business school is good. Please inform me as to the validity of that claim. Also how hard is it to get in there. I have a 3rd cousin twice removed who went there. Would that help me get in? Also I have a 4.0 my first semester in college. I have always wanted to go to University of Alabama at Birmingham cause my mama says its real good. Haha but i jest. Honestly though how good is UNC Business School? How does it compare with UVA, Michigan, georgetown, etc.?

Penn?

By Lhomme (Lhomme) on Wednesday, April 02, 2003 - 08:31 pm: Edit

Penn is great - if you can get in =D. I didn't (found out today, no big surprise). As it stands right now, after recieving financial aid packages from three of the four schools its either Georgetown or Carnegie Mellon. Can anybody give me the pros and cons of each?

What about UCLA business economics? How does it compare?

This message is regarding the first message. The rankings are Univ of Michigan by far, then G town, C Melon, and BU. Look at Stern, which is where I attend. Stern is superior to all those programs with the exception of Michigan.
