Does anyone know how good of a college is the University of Illinois for aerospace? just wondering, because next summer im going to go to a camp there. i really want to go into aerospace and one day work for NASA...on the website for U of I it has something about NASA giving people scholarships to go there. anyone know about that? i really just want to find a good college, preferably small, that i can study aerospace.
not that it really makes a huge difference, but i want something semi-close to my home (central Ohio) so that i might be able to drive back for things such as football games, because i will be part of the alumi band and such. help anyone?

UIUC is ranked #7 for aerospace. You might also consider #3 Michigan, #6 Purdue, and #11 Penn State.

Well, if you want something small don't go to U of I.

Go to Miami University in Oxford, major in Astrophysics. You'll be relatively close to home, and can pay in-state tuition. The campus is much smaller than UIUC's, and is closer to a decent-sized city (about 1+ hours to Cincy or Dayton).

Astrophysics is not anything like aerospace engineering. Aerospace is similar to mechanical engineering except obviously you focus on flying things like planes and rockets. Astrophysics is the physics of astronomical things like galaxies and black holes.

I've heard great things about U of I and their engineering program in general... not sure about the Aerospace program. A friend of mine turned down CalTech and MIT for U of I although there were other factors pushing his decision.

Illinois may not be as prestigious to the average person, but in Engineering circles, it is as good as MIT, Cal Tech, Stanford and Cal-Berkeley. It is THAT good.
I also recommend Michigan-Ann Arbor for Aerospace Engineering.

well...besides the fact that i REALLY dont want to go to Michigan ANYTHING (not because im an Ohio fan...stupid rival......but because i have so much family there id have to be visiting someone new every weekend), but one of my friends who is a senior this year is going to Dayton. she chose between Miami and Dayton, and chose Dayton if they accept her.
i want to do aerospace engineering if i can get my math skills up enough to be an engineer. any more suggestions of colleges and/or things to help me get there?
