It won't let me post in college admissions, so im posting here.
I was just wondering how common it is for a graduate of a non-ivy league institution, such as USC, NYU, UCLA, etc, to be accepted into a graduate course at Harvard or Yale. Or is it more likely that the undergrads at Yale and Harvard will stay on for a Masters?
I'll be attending USC this Autumn, and I was just thinking about it and thought I'd ask...
Any thoughts?

If you have the recomendation, the grades, the scores, and the acheivements for all that harvard cares you can come out of a junior college and still do their grad work. Granted if you are at a junior college its highly doubtful you have all of the factors listed above but you can deifnately earn those at USC.

woah, woah buddy....People go to JC's for a myriad of reasons; expense (me) being one of them. Please don't be so quick to assume that they are incapable. I've met some extremely bright people in JC. (many of whom are brighter than their four year counterparts)

Honeymoon,
I recently got my MA from USC and have met a bunch of people in the last couple of years. I cannot say how likely it is but what I can say is that I have met a hand full of people whow have went on to these types of graduate/professional schools from USC. The admissions committees at various schools are used to seeing applications from highly qualified students and so can recognize those who are smart. They also know that USC is a good school but just not the best. If I were to divide the people who have made it to top Ivy graduate programs by those who I have met at USC who applied, the number would be very good. The problem is that neither the neumerator nor the denominator would be very large. The point is that USC should not pose a problem for you. You can do it if you are smart enough.

You can go to a H or Y grad school from anywhere, but you will need very high performance relative to your college. Top tier college grads can be in maybe the top 15% of their class and get into the law and b schools with good everything else, 2nd tier college students about top 5%. Just work hard, get good internships and ec's, great recs.
