Hi! I am a law graduate from UK who want to study for a second bachelors in Columbia School of General Studies. Can you please tell me what do the admission committe look for in an applicant? Are there any tips? Is admission rate higher for international students? Thank you.

I'm also interested in the School of General Studies. Well, you already graduated college, so I'm sure you stats are impressive. Do you plan on taking the SAT/ACT? What are your stats? I'm going to retake these tests as I didn't do well at all..:(

From Columbia's website.

I hope this helps

The School of General Studies (GS) is the college at Columbia University created specifically for students who pursue a nontraditional path to complete a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. Nontraditional students include persons who have interrupted their educations since high school for at least one academic year or individuals who have compelling personal or professional reasons to attend college on a part-time basis. GS is also the college at Columbia for students seeking to complete a second B.A. or B.S. degree. GS students take the same courses, are taught by the same faculty, and earn the same degree as all other Columbia undergraduates.
The admissions process takes into account traditional measures of academic success such as test scores and high school grade point averages. The Admissions Committee will also make a determined effort to engage applicants in a dialogue designed to gauge their academic and intellectual capabilities. This dialogue, while not discounting traditional admissions criteria, encompasses a profile of work experiences, past academic accomplishments, personal achievements, and depth of commitment to a demanding program of study and the pursuit of excellence

Applicants may not simultaneously apply to the School of General Studies and to any other undergraduate division of Columbia University – Columbia College (CC), Barnard College, or the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) – nor are candidates eligible to apply to the School of General Studies if in the last three years they applied to any of these divisions (with the exception of Barnard) and were not accepted.

HOW TO APPLY
Undergraduate degree applicants must submit the following:
1. Official* high school transcripts, secondary school records, or GED test results. Applicants with a GED and two or more years of high school will need to submit their high school transcripts.
2. Official* transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
3. Official* scores from the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the American College Testing Program (ACT) taken within the last eight years. Standardized scores should be reported directly to Columbia by the testing service. The ETS code number for General Studies is 2095. Students who have no test scores or test scores older than eight years will be contacted by the Office of Admissions to take the General Studies Admissions Examination at a cost of $25.
4. Two typed, double-spaced essays. See the admissions application for essay questions.
5. Two letters of recommendation from academic and/or professional sources.
6. A nonrefundable application fee of $50 in the form of a check or money order payable to Columbia University. Applicants using the online application may use a credit card to pay the $50 fee.
7. For paper applications, three self-addressed application status cards returned with the completed application form. Students who are interested in University Housing should also complete and return the Housing Information request card along with their application.
