Hey
I have read many posts here and I seem to gather that most ppl with good SAT's etc, tend to go for privates as high priority... why arent top publics like UMICH UIUC UNC hot on ppls lists. Being an international I just wanted to find out are top publics worth it or not?

Actually those publics are extremely high on a very large number of students' lists. The issue you face with this board is that it is occupied heavily by persons who focus only on Ivies and some other privates. They may be the majority on this board but the very, very small minority in the US. The three publics that you mention are considered among the top schools in the country.

Many people like the privates because financial aid is usually better. For example ~ most publics I looked at couldn't guarantee you'd have enough aid to cover expenses, but all of the privates I applied to guarantee to meet 100% of your demonstrated need (based on your fafsa and css profile)

even tho privates cost less than publics they will probably make your finanical aid package mostly consisted of loans ... yuck.

yea, my efc is only 360. cmu expects me to pay 8500 and 12000 in loans every year. and i think they said they guarantee to meet 100% of the student's needs. thats pretty ridiculous.while i only have to pay 5000 and 5000 in loans for umich out of state, i dunno how they calculate these things.
