As someone who majored in Accounting and taught in various business schools, I can give you some insight. Don't just go to the rankings to determine which school to attend. Different schools have different specialties in business and different strengths and weaknesses. For example, I majored in accounting many years ago at C.U.N.Y at Baruch. It was a fabulous program, and I passed the CPA in one shot, which is very rare. Baruch was also very inexpensive since it was a state/city subsidized school. However, most of the other Baruch programs were, in my opinion, mediocre at the time.

Check out the school envirnment. Check out the specialties of the school. State schools tend to be very inexpensive compared to their private school counterparts even with a lot of financial aid by the private school. State schools also tend to pay their professors better than many private schools; thus, attracting some very top notch talent.

This is not to say that private schools such as CMU or NYU are bad for undergraduate business. Quite the contrary. However, you do need to check them out and speak to the students there.
