The Boston University Frehsman Class Profile is false indicating 29,348 application and only 3,961 freshman. That turns out to be a 13% accpetance rate and that is definetely incorrect. A friend of mine got accepted from the fourth decile of my school with a 1250 SAT. Sounds quite interesting to me E

maybe the 3961 means 3961 freshmen spots or projected class size, not 3961 freshmen accepted?

yeah i think you are interpreting the data incorrectly. im pretty sure the 3961 is the number of freshmen attending, not admitted.

There are 3961 freshmen, but they accepted many more than that. For example, the US News data has 27,038 applicants, 15,677 accepted, and 4,560 enrolled. For that year, only 29% of accepted students decided to attend, so they obviously have to accept several times their freshmen class size to fill it up.

If the 29% marticulation rate remains constant it means BU would have accepted a total of 13,658
this year
which would make this years acceptance rate:
46.5 %

This happens alot in college literature. They will give you the number of spots open in relationship to the applications received rather than divulging the actual acceptances. USN&WR is no longer giving out yield numbers in their annual ratings which I feel is a mistake because it does give you a better feel for the selectivity of a college. But they feel that some schools are acting in ways to just increase that yield figure to the detriment of applicants to manipulate the rankings, so they are not going to consider it as part of their ranking system.
