Can anyone tell me about York University?
I would like to know about you or others you know think about it.
What does the surrounding area look like.
Is it overcrowded or rundown?
I don't know anything about the Canadian University system, so I would like to know if University of Toronto is better and the differences between the two.
You know, just anything about it, I visit the website but I would like to know the stuff the sites doesn't reveal. Thanks!

My girlfriend is going to U of T so I've visited both with her before she applied. I'd recommend that to anyone who's thinking of applying. They're totally different. York is on the outskirts of Toronto in a not very nice part of the city. U of T is downtown and we both liked it a lot more. It's more of a traditional old-style building type campus. York's campus is open and was very windy the day we were there, and I can just imagine it being freezing in the winter.
As far as academics go, the two schools don't compare. U of T has a much better reputation and is more difficult to get into. It's larger and offers more programs. A majority of York's student body commutes to campus. Generally, I would say that U of T is the better choice if you have the marks to get in.

For some reason I thought that Univ. of Toronto was on way different level than York, but I wasn't sure.
The website definitely does not give that perspective of it.
Thanks for the info.

U of T is definately better. York is undeed kinda rundown and its location is prtty crappy. However, if your going into business or an obscure humanities course its definately worth considering. Its not a bas school, its just that UofT is better.
The Canadian system of schools means that all schools are public, and the differences between them arent all that big. Good luck.

wait, there are no private schools at all in canada?

Nope, no private colleges in Canada. The taxpayers foot the bill for the the majority of a college student's education.

York's building is really ugly... UofT is grander... Both have great programs... though a couple of my friends picked York...because the courses were more specific, rich, and practical...However.. a nice campus counts a lot to me! ;) and that's why I stayed away from york!
