Hello, just got accepted to UCLA as a transfer for this Fall 2004 in Biology. I should be planning to apply to some grad schools in a year. I know UCSF is very good in Pharmacy and Cell Bio. I also heard The University of the Pacific, in my home town of Stockton, CA is also good. I am probably looking to get away from the west coast. Aside from the obvious, what are some exceptional schools on the East coast? Maybe the ones I never heard of before. I think I can keep a good 3.5-3.7 GPA if that is of any help.

Try this site - the American Association of Pharmacy Colleges for a complete list: www.aacp.org

Some other east coast schools not yet mentioned: the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, Albany College of Pharmacy (NY), St. John's U. in NY, Temple, Duquesne in Pittsburgh, and the University of Pittsburgh. And, of course, don't forget Purdue.

Thanks guys for all your help. I'll be sure to check these colleges out. By the way, how would you rank some of the schools on the west coast. Especially if you are from the east?

The first PharmD program was at USC, but as far as rank I don't know. I would be concerned about how long the school has been around and the pass rate of the pharmacy board exam. You should be able to ck the pass rate by cking the state board of pharmacy websites. UCSD is new but excellent. I ran into a professor at a not so old school a few yrs back and he did not feel the quality was "up there" yet for his school. You are going to spent a lot of time and money-research and make sure that you will be taught what is needed.

You can probably do betetr than Northeastern (A Tier 3 school). There are some on this board who really cheerlead this school.

LOL, here we ago again. Lenk, your constant bashing of NEU is getting old. You and I both know that the U.S. News rankings are lagging, as they do not reflect NEU's recent transformation to a residential research university. The changes include over $500 million in new construction and a major revamping of all academic programs. If you bothered to look beyond the outdated U.S. News rankings, you would realize that NEU has an outstanding pharmacy program. Here's why:

1. Northeastern offers pharmacy co-ops at all the major hospitals in Boston, including Mass General (the #1 rated hospital in the world), Children's Hospital. Pharmacy students can also co-op for all the major drug manufacturers and bio-tech companies in the U.S. and abroad (France, England, Spain, Hong Kong and Sweden, etc.).

2. Northeastern recently opened a amazing new building to house the health sciences college which includes the pharmacy program. Feast your eyes on this:

3. The average starting salary for NEU Pharmacy grads is $80,000.

Nice try!

The only thing that is truly lagging is NEU (Tier 3). Alan spreads a lot of hype but check the rankings yourself. NEU is also deep into it's waitlist. Accepted students have decided to enroll elsewhere.

By Barrons (Barrons) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 02:01 pm: Edit

Most good Pharm schools have their own separate buildings.

Most larger programs have their own buildings but many good programs put all health science majors in the same building so that they can interact and learn from each other.

Northeastern was my safety and I ended up enrolling elsewhere but not because I did not like it. It is a great school (IMHO), nice campus involved with the city, interesting students and that co-op program sounded very good. Don't mean to cheerlead the school, but rankings aren't EVERYTHING. They are a part of the process, but not 100%

By Lenk58 (Lenk58) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 04:26 pm: Edit

Since they are already deep into the waitlist. I guess many people use it as a safety and enroll in other schools. Ranking are not everything but people like Alan just blindly cheerlead and will argue about the rankings. A tier 3 school is a tier 3 school. If Alan can show us otherwise I would like to see it.

By Alan5 (Alan5) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 09:55 pm: Edit

Lenk, despite what you say NEU has not gone "deep" into their waitlist. The admissions officer that I spoke with said that they have only admitted a few people off the waitlist (like every school).

Everyone knows that NEU will be a tier II school when the rankings come out in August, so you only have a couple of months left to refer to it a "Tier 3 school." Enjoy it while it lasts.

Like the old and true saying. It is what it is. NEU is tier 3 school that has gone deep into it's waitlist. You say only a few, come on there are more than a few on this board alone. Keep cheerleading. By the way Villanova and many other schools have not gone into their waitlist.

You have not offered any evidence to back up any of your arguments except for two year old U.S. News rankings. Try again.

University of toledo is good as well as Ohio Northern

By Lenk58 (Lenk58) on Friday, June 04, 2004 - 05:26 pm: Edit

Alan
