I was wondering if anyone had heard if either Columbia or Princeton would be going to their waitlists. Write back with any information regarding the waitlists and Princeton and Columbia. thank you

Usually the most reliable way to get this information is to go right to the source (i.e.,the admission offices themselves) and simply ask.
Admittedly, there are some questions that you might ask admission folks that could generate a party-line response rather than the straight scoop ("How important are SATs?" is often one of those, as is "What sort of weight do you give to minority status?") but colleges tend to be forthcoming--especially by this late in the game--when it comes to WL numbers. If you are still waiting to hear from Columbia, write to that school at ugrad-admiss@columbia.edu. (I don't have the Princeton address, but I imagine, if you don't either, you can find it on their Web site at www.princeton.edu.)
You can tell them that you'd like to know if there's still a chance they'll go to their waiting list, and you can ask them also if they'll provide some numbers to back up the response (e.g., "If four more students drop out, we WILL go to the list.") BTW, it never hurts to be cute and friendly in your messages. You might say, for instance, that you're buying your fall wardrobe and need to decide what color sweatshirt to match.
Good Luck
