great school, i have alot of friends there. Beautiful campus, one of the prettiest in the south. Great liberal arts school. It isn't too selective, but is very hard once you get in. Campus life is alot of fun. Not an unbelievable party school, but alot of fun. Big frat and sorority parties. Quality of life there is great, its not a place where u can get bored.

What kind of religious pressure? Would a liberal fit in?

No way. Furman is ultra-conservative. When freshmen women arrive on campus, they are assigned a male to help them move heavy boxes, make sure they do not get raped while walking to class, and escort them to the dining hall. Women are not allowed to eat at the dining hall unescorted!

How do they stop women from eating in the dining hall if they are not with someone.
What if you get hungry when you happen to be alone? You're kidding right.

Wow.
I think that's very chivalrous, but I think that would get annoying, and FAST-- both for the female AND the male.

No. I am not kidding.
A family friend goes there and she told me that.

The post about having a male walk females to the dining hall is definately NOT TRUE. I am currently a sophomore and I know that several years ago females had to be escorted by males down their residence halls, but they definately got rid of that rule a LONG time ago. Furman is definately not as conservative as you might think. While there is a larger than average religious population there are still tons of liberal students. The classes are really tough but you do learn a lot. Socially - if you are looking for a party you will always find one. Bars in downtown Greenville are really popular too. I have to agree with the upper class white kid stereotype - you would not believe how many students drive a mercedes/BMW/ Land Rover and carry a Louis vuitton as a bookbag, but they are all really nice and really attractive.
