Can anyone give me any information about the State Universities of New York (SUNY). Are they good schools? Which ones are the best? Any info would be nice.

some SUNYs are good, others aren't. i don't know what your definition of good is but i tried to group some of the more popular ones together. i'm not a SUNY expert but i'm basing these on who that i know is going to which SUNY and how good of a student they were in HS. and if i knew anything else, i added it. your guidance office should have a SUNY book thingy if you're in NY (i'm assuming you are?).

good SUNYs-
binghamton (regarded as the best and is toughest to get into)
geneseo (also hard to get into, smaller than bing and in the middle of nowhere)
stony brook (good for science i think?)
albany (party school, i believe)
buffalo (really big)

next level SUNYs-
purchase (lots of potheads)
oneonta
oswego
new paltz
plattsburgh (sp?) (wayyyyyy up north!)
cortland

not-too-great SUNYs-
old westbury
farmingdale
cobleskill
most of the "technology colleges"

the SUNY system also includes a gazillion community colleges and works with a few colleges at cornell. i left out sooooo many cuz there's like 64 total SUNYs.

Hey Perintastic,
No, actually I live in california. I'm looking to get out of this place after next year and I have been getting some mail from Stony Brook and a few others and I wasn't sure of their qualities. Are you a senior, and if you are, did you apply to any of them? What's your gpa and sat scores. Thanks.

man, if i lived in CA i wouldn't want to leave, but that's just me...

i only applied to binghamton, and that's likely where i'm going next year...i had 3.7ish unweighted GPA and 1370 SAT but people get in there with lower stats than that.

you might be able to request a SUNY brochure book thing from suny.edu if you'd like. it lists all the SUNYs with a brief description of each.
