Atlanta, how is campus life at Georgia Tech?
| By Atlanta on Friday, February 14, 2003 - 12:36 pm: Edit |
it depends on who you talk to, but most people think that it sucks, unless you dont mind studying 24/7

Atlanta, What if you dont mind studying hard (engineering IS hard)? Does Ga Tech provide a pleasant set of campus activites in the off-hours? What are the students at Tech like? Are they all nerdy?
| By Atlanta on Friday, February 14, 2003 - 12:53 pm: Edit |
it does have a pleasant set of activities, especially in sports. a lot of the students tend to be nerdy, but not everyone is. if you dont mind studying hard than it is the place for you

I applied there, but not going there. I heard it farther away from Atlanta than most people think. But then when people find that out they arent too dissappointed cuz Atlanta is suppsed to be a very ghetto city.

ya, it is pretty far away. and, no, atlanta is NOT a very ghetto city, some people are actually waaaaaaaay too stuck up

well, truth is, we do get snow- but it usually about once a year and not usually more than 2-3 inches. the snow goes away in about a day
the social/campus life is supposedly pretty good
here is some discussion about it from princetonreview.com:
What Emory Students Say About...
Campus Life
"Life at Emory has many different possibilities," explains a first-year. "The greatest strength of the school is the balance between a great academic school and a place to explore and have fun." The school s proximity to downtown Atlanta certainly helps students can do the usual around campus ("hang out with friends, frat parties, bowl, play Frisbee, watch movies"), or they can "head into Atlanta," with its big-city restaurants, plays, films, and other cultural events. Unfortunately, the school is located some distance from the epicenter of activity, so, as a first-year points out, "As a freshman without a car, life is Emory." She continues: "We go to the mall on the free shuttle and take cabs everywhere else. City transport is great, but if you want to get out, you need friends with cars." With many upperclassmen living off campus, students say the school lacks a sense of "community" and "school spirit." They also complain that it s a fairly "materialistic" school. With a beautiful campus, Atlanta at an arm s reach, and a fairly sociable student body, "life is fun just don t leave home without your Prada bag."

How good is Ga Tech for engineering? What sort of reputation does it have?
