I am a junior planning to major in Computer Science, or more specifically, programming(will have worked w/4 comp. languages)

4.0 GPA
top 1% of class
1360 SAT (definately going to try to boost that)
nearly all AP classes
a few clubs b/c band takes a lot of time
decent essays
money doesn't matter too much

I'm not looking for the most prestigious schools, just ones where I can get a good education.

MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, U of Washington, UIUC. I could go on and on, but frankly I don't know where to stop. There are a lot of schools with very strong software curriculum. These all have great reputations as well and are heavily recruited at by software companies. You've got lots of choices. What else are you looking for in a college?

have u participated the Olympics? i mean the USACO

By still looking... on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 - 10:35 pm: Edit

In regards to tpg: no, I've never even heard of the USACO. I'm looking for a school that will provide a good education, but not necessarily a $35000+ tuition. Also, I was wondering if it's typical/recommended to go to a cheaper school for undergraduate school and then transfer to a more prestigious school for graduate studies.

Right now, I'm looking at Rice (closer to home, cheaper, but not the best program) and Carnegie Mellon (I live in Dallas - it's in PA, more expensive, great program & looks very good on a resumé), but my options are open.

(Also, the 1360 SAT should be a 1390. It was bugging me)

USACO is great! They have internet competitions, great internet training materials, and a free summer camp to select and train the US team to the int'l competition. It sounds like something you would really like. Go to www.usaco.org

I signed up for the USACO, but most likely won't make the team. It's good practice though. Still wondering about certain colleges, though. I know CMU is good, and I've heard good things about WU-STL, but still don't know what would be best for me, but I know no one can tell me that. Just need good suggestions... I guess I've still got little less than a year, so that should be enough time...hopefully.

All you programmers out there... I'm looking for a wiz. Someone who can help build a program from the bottom up. A program that has easy interactivity and can be transmitted via analogue and digital TV signals. I and my partners are in the beginnings of a startup and we're looking for a hungry guy out there looking for longterm opportunity, a programmer (male or female, in college or grad school or out on his own) who can dedicate a fair amount of time (meaning a reasonable amount, something they can fit in the cracks of their life) to come on board in esxhange for equity in the company. For details on the company, send me an e-mail at mnemnoc@hotmail.com.

cornell stanford also, haven't heard much from northwestern.

you should look at what you might be interested in too ( i mean more specific areas of CS). But probably any one of them would be tough.
