Hi
i got accepted to the following suny schools:
suny binghamton
suny stony brook
suny buffalo
suny albany
I want to pursue pre-medecine and my major is probably going to be physics or biology. I was just wondering which of these colleges is the best for pre-medecine. thank you

Binghamton is the most respected SUNY (has the lowest acdceptance rate, most qualified applicants), and I think they have a good bio program also. But you should really contact all these schools. Did you get into any honors programs? Because that could also make a difference.

hmm now i am basically debating over binghamton and stony brook. A lot of people have told me stony brook is a better school for pre-medecine because it has got a hospital and a med school right on campus. + its a very good research institute .On the other hand, i have heard tahtBinghamton is the most competitve school out of all the sunys as it has the lowest acceptance rate. Also binghamton's medical school acceptance rate is 10-20% higher than national average. (btw if any1 knows what the medical school acceptance rate fer stony brook is .....plz post it)....i am really confused now......so please help me.....and also post the good/bad things abt both the school and how you rate both the schools ....thanx again for helpin me out with my college decision.

the suny medical school system is a little screwed up right now. so your best bet is to take advantage of it's current shamble.
binghamton is a much harder school than a school like albany. but that is not really taken into much consideration at the time of medical school application within the suny system.
in fact, suny employs an "early assurance" program where you can get into med school early by showing superior performance at whatever suny you attend! thus, getting a 3.7 at an easy suny like albany will always get you in before a 3.5 student at a harder suny like binghamton.
look into the early assurance program and how it works....and you will see that i am right. notice in particular that applications within the suny system is weighed all the same...whether you come out of binghamton, stony brook, buffalo or albany! thus, to assure yourself a spot in medical school...the wise thing to do is to goto the easiest school and get the best grades possible.
the real learning will have to take place in medical school...where things are fast paced and elaborate. but hardly anyone fails out of US medical schools as they do alot of spoonfeeding. the hard part if getting in...so strategize wisely.

What constitutes "superior performance"? Is there a certain GPA that will automatically get you in? My friend is considering SUNY Albany and wants to go to med school, and is interested in this information.

superior performance in the suny system is a little screwy. goto google and looking up "suny early assurance medicine."
as you can see a 3.5 and 1300 sat is minimum cutoff. i know of a student last year from suny geneseo that made the cut with a 3.51, 1380 SAT. thats pretty low for medical school standards! getting a 3.51 at an easy school....very doable IMO. try to do that at cornell...and it becomes incredibly hard!
with grade inflation and differentiation between various schools, if you know that the rigor of curricula isnt weighted very heavily (or sufficiently heavy enough)...logic dictates that one should take the sure thing. take the road that guarantees that you'll be a doctor.
study hard in medical school and serve people well.
