I need to decide very quickly on either BU or University of Delaware. Which is better overall. I hear Boston is a great town, but I also like serene beautiful campuses like at Udel. Also the prices are quite different. Is BU a better name than Delaware thus making it worth the more money? I also live in south Jersey, so Udel is closer, but something just attracts me to BU. I have heard about the strict crappy rules that BU has in their dorms from reading this message board also. I just don't know guys, whats a better school. Please respond as quickly as possible...thanks

What kind of an acdemic program are you looking for, Joe? Are you considering Delaware Honors or their general curriculum? Is money a critical concern? Have you talked to students at both schools to ask them questions? Tell us more so we can give better answers.

Well i am undecided on a major at either school. I have talked to BU students and my sister goes to Delaware....but either way i don't think a student is gonna say thier school sucks, otherwise they wouldn't still be going there. I am looking for the school that has the best academic program in general.......aside from honors programs and whatnot. Also it depends on whether i want to take on the burden of huge student loans or not....BU will burry me, Delaware will be managable. But if BU is far above Udel in academics then money will not be a factor. What about prestige? What would u say is the best school for an undecided area of study?

If BU would "bury you in debt," I would definitely go with Delaware. Everyone I know who took out major loans to go to an expensive school really regretted it after they graduated and were paying them back! Unless you really love BU and are dying to go there, I'd stick with Delaware, which is pretty much on par with BU academically but at much lower price.

I agree with the other posters. Check the rankings but I'd be surprised if a difference between the 2 in quality, if there is one, is enough to justify a big difference in cost.

I know you've already made your decision for college, but I'd still like you put in my two cents. I'm a UD student, and while I'm not unhappy, I'm also not having "the time of my life." I guess what I'm trying to say is that Delaware is not what it's cracked up to be. The social atmosphere on campus kinda blows. You can almost always go to the Ground Floor, or to Brick Yard if you wanna do the whole club thing, but if you're just looking for a solid house party, they are few and far between. The cops on campus, and in newark are real dicks. They are honestly out to get you. They are paid to stop under age drinking, which is cool if you're 21, or if you've got a hell of a fake, but it kinda sucks when you're under age. Other schools don't push this no booze policy as hard. They pay their police to keep the students safe, not sober. As for classes, they're not too hard at all. You'd think that a school with a stick up its butt about parties would atleast challenge its students in the classroom, but they don't. In short, the price is right and it's not hard to pull a decent GPA, but the social atmosphere is lacking. Other than that the campus (except Dickinson and Rodney) is beautiful, and there are more incredable women than you could ever imagine (although actually finding one while you're out is harder that I ever thought).

My friend, I hope you chose BU over Delaware. I have graduated from BU one year ago and will come back to pursue my graduate studies in BU this fall. I was going to go to other school just because it is more common to do your graduate studies in another university, but I could not deal with the idea of leaving this dynamic and fulfilling place. There is just no other better place to spend your student years. The availability of resources in terms of social and academic life is overwhelming. Professors are amazing and girls are stunning. The opportunities given to students in BU and Boston in general exceed all expectations. Good luck.

I would say dont go to college at all. All college does is get you a job working for someone else. Just Over Broke! Strike out on your own like me and then and only then will you acheive true financial freedom like me. (I am only 22 and earn roughly 10000 a month is personal income)

I'm a student from California, finishing up my prereqs in community college, and preparing to transfer. I've been researching schools from the Midwest (U of Wisconsin-Madison), the South (Tulane, U of Richmond), to the East coast (NYU, Boston U). Boston has always been attractive to me for various reasons such as it's culture and rich history. In addition to that, it seems to be less of a metropolan city and more of a college town. This is something that I am really looking foreward to experiencing. I want to be able to look back on my college years and my experiences with fond memories. I was wondering if there are any members on this board that would like to reinforce these assumptions for me. Thanks in advance.
