Anyone know anything about Bard College?

It's very hard to get into. Its all-girl, and it is related to Columbia somehow. I'm sure you already know all of this, but I'm telling you just in case. Good luck w/getting in if you decide to apply

That's Barnard, not Bard.

We looked at Bard when my daughter was doing the college search, and there were things about it that we really liked and things that we didn't like as much. It's quite small, which means you have small student/teacher ratios and everyone knows everyone else. The campus is beautiful, but you'd better have a car since there's nothing nearby. You don't "declare a major" there the way you would at any other school - rather, you request a major, and the faculty examine your previous grades and your abilities and your interests, and THEY decide if they'll let you major in whatever it is you want. However, once you get your major, the facilities are superb. If you're a science major, you get your own private lab. If you're an artist or photographer, you get your own studio or darkroom, etc. The student body seemed to be pretty eclectic, with many student-run sports teams and performance groups. We were told that there is a fairly high incidence of drug use, and a lot of people smoke cigs., which really turned my daughter off. Bard is not your average LAC, by any stretch of the imagination.

I took a summer course there, which was a great experience, but it also steered me very clear of actually applying to the school. I didn't like the vibes. A lot of the people were pretty self-absorbed, the dorm I stayed in was disgusting, and it's just so remote. It has the liberal atmosphere that a lot of people want, but there really are better places to find it.
The campus is beautiful, though!
