Which college would you say is best for a philosophy and English double major who wants to go on to a good grad school?
Swarthmore
Carleton
Bowdoin
Tufts

I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of those. One of my friends at Tufts did an English/philosophy double-major and apparently loved it.

Swat would definitely be the best. They have the honors seminars which are basically made for people going on to PhD programs. You take small, intense seminars in your junior and senior year and write a dissertation before you graduate.

Look at Hopkins. An unusual pick but they have excellent humanities departments and they love having candidates for them. If your stats are good, you have a shot for scholarship money.

You might take a look online at a site called The Philosophical Gourmet. It has a good discussion of philosophy departments, including how to look at them as an undergraduate.

I want to major in this combo too, that is, unless I go to St. Johns. The one nagging question in the back of my head is what I can do with this combo career wise. Teach?

I suppose I wont be worrying too much about my career though if I go to St. Johns :)

St. John's is best, but U. of Chicago is pretty good in philosophy as well.
