Hey everyone. I came across this forum just searching the web. Heres my story. Im a Junior at a pretty competitive High School In Michigan. All of my life I have been completly obsessed with Stanford University. I do not have amazing grades but they are ok. I did pretty well on my ACT, have yet to take my SAT. I was just wondering what i should expect as far as expectations for admission. I have a 3.78 with almost all advanced classes. I play Varsity Football and Baseball. (not good enough to play D1 in college though). So if you could provide me with any information about anything it would be great. thank you

Where in Michigan?

Stanford takes approximately 1 of 9 applicants, and they have a very accomplished applicant pool.

(1) Top 5% of class at a school like yours + (2) a tough AP or IB schedule + (3) average of 700+ across SAT I and II tests or 33+ ACT composite + (3) some solid extracurricular activities gets you in the game, but note that many with those sorts of stats still get rejected. If kids from your school apply to Stanford talk to your guidance counselor and see what he/she can tell you about the qualifications of the students that were accepted (and rejected.)

Applying early action (EA) will increase your odds, but my advice would be to investigate and visit other first-rank universities and liberal arts schools so you obsess a bit less about Stanford. You may well have a shot there, but there are a whole bunch of excellent schools out there.

Hey,

Definitely work on those SATs. I'm an EA acceptee for c/o 2008, and I'lll tell ya that the people i've met are simply amazing. You seemed very determined, and you'll be fine if you write some killer essays.

I'm a little concerned with this "obsession..." Is there any particular reason why Stanford is such an obsession? Like Reidmc says, look at some other schools. Stanford IS great (and IMHO, the best in the country), but it would be wise if you were less "obsessed" over it.

I'm a very big sprots fan. I play baseball and football. My Favorite athelete was alwayse John Elway, he went to Stanford. When i was young i found out he went to Stanford i wanted to go there. as i got older i realized how much the school has to offer. From the programs to the location, everything seems absolutley right for me. I have followed the school for a long time and I have almost fell in love with it. may sound a little weird but its true. so thats the reason im obsessed with Stanford. Thank you for the help, if there is anything else you guys would like to add i would really appreciate it.

If you are so obsessed with stanford- Then go for it man!. Devote this entire year towards getting perfect grades and super test scores. You still have time: so start early and best of luck!

Good call, Rizz. Stanford Athletics rocks.

My best suggestion to you is to START ON THE ESSAYS. It really isn't too early. Go to the Stanford Undergraduate Admissions website and check out their applications. I do have to say that your "low" GPA could be a problem - make up for it with some outstanding writing. And do not underestimate the power of recommendations, so make sure you kiss up to your teachers.
