I just found out about this school. Does anyone know anything about it? Would they give me a merit-based scholarship? I don't think it's very difficult to get in..anyone?

My friend is going there with a 3.7 and a 1050 (she's a horrible test taker....but works extremely hard). They might give you merit based aide, but I think its passed the deadline to apply, unless of course you're only a junior. It's in an extremely nice part of L.A. near the coast (Marina del rey). A good majority of my friends are planning on going there...fairly easy to get into.

Also if you plan on working in the L.A. area, they offer extremely good internships/it's a good school to make connections at.

My daughter's school sends 5-6 kids to LMU every year. It has a very pretty campus and excellent programs in business, communications, film, and art. The student body is very ethnically diverse -only 50% of students are caucasian. It is a Catholic (Jesuit) school but you can meet the religion course requirements by taking things like Buddhism. As the poster mentioned above, they have an excellent internship program.

LMU has become more selective in recent years because their application numbers are on the rise. They accept only 56% of applicants so it's not necessarily an "easy" school to get into (for some it has become a backup to places like USC and UCLA because of its film school). In addition to grades and academic record, I've heard they place a huge emphasis on essays (their essays ask you to write about specific philosophies of the college and its founders) and community service. Average SAT range 1040-1250.

As for financial aid and merit scholarships:
for 2003-2004, 77% applied for financial aid, of those, 58% were determined to have need, 32% had their need fully met by the school. About 3% of students receive merit scholarships which average $5,956 a year. Therefore, I'd say they are not particularly generous with merit money based on academics. They do, however, offer some big athletic scholarships.

Peter, Could you please ask if it is possible to take classes in the different schools? For example, if you are in the arts/communications school can you take film classes without too much paperwork and hassle involved? Thanks.

Peterline - Are you back yet? How was your trip?

Carolyn, as an LMU student, I can tell you that it is very easy to take classes in the different schools. I'm a business major, and next semester, I'm taking a film class, a philosophy class, a writing class, and a theology class.
