Lake Forest is in Illinois. It was ranked fifth preppiest college in the country by the Official Preppy Handbook, ed. Lisa Birnbach.

I'd like to add University of the South (Sewanee), Sweet Briar, Trinity, Rhodes, and UVA.

Arizona, Florida, Colorado.

Most true upper class kids want to go to college where they'll have fun.

Go look up Paul Fussel's book "Class : a guide through the American status system" from the early 80s if you want to have a look at this. I doubt much has changed since then.

Middlebury, USC, Emory, Tulane, Hampton-Sydney, Lafayette, Skidmore, Williams, Dartmouth, Colby, Yale --

There seems to be a parallel among all these schools mentioned in this thread and the high quality of education available to its students.

Therefore, do elite students = elite colleges

or do elite colleges = elite students?

Middlebury

By Thekev (Thekev) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 04:38 pm: Edit

Middlebury is too liberal and hippy to be on this list. It's not exactly country club.
Are we forgetting a lot of the ski schools:
Regis, U of Denver, other colorado schools
Plus what about VASSAR????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

By Voigtrob (Voigtrob) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 04:42 pm: Edit

Thekev, you say Middlebury is too liberal and hippy, but then suggest Vassar?!? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I don't think Princeton really falls into the 'country-club' college sort of atmosphere... I think most of the true examples of that are pretty much exclusively in the south.

Middlebury's actually pretty damn preppy for a NE school...
