For a undegraduate biology major: which would you pick?

Johns Hopkins, because there is such a diversity of biological majors and a huge focus on biology in general throughout the university.

I applied to both, though.

I'd be wary about class sizes, TA teaching rates, and negative competitiveness at JHU for just that reason, though. Something to research...

Both schools have big, competative biology departments, though if anything, I'd say cornell would be more competetive. If you're interested more in the biomedical sciences, I'd say JHU, but for everything else--genetics, anything with agriculture, ecology and evolution...go with Cornell. It has a bigger department, more diverse faculty, more resources, more courses, a phenomenal undergrad advising group and a broader more diverse, more respected liberal arts education (which, in hindsight is very important). In addition, I think you would get a more diverse student body as far as interests go at Cornell. The schools are in completely different settings...JHU is urban Baltimore while Cornell is in the middle of the woods (though Ithaca can be a pretty cool town). Check them both out though...They're both excellent places.
