Which one of these three SUNYs are worth going to and how would you rate them? Any advice would be helpful.

Binghamton is tops. Quality education...the whole works. The only bad part is maybe the campus.

Buffalo is second, it is also a quality institution.

Stony Brook is third. I think it is a tad overrated among SUNY's, considering I have a friend that is there as a math major. She says the students aren't that highly motivated and that the campus sucks.

On a side note: Buffalo has very large class sizes...some people feel negatively about that.

Stony Brook has the best faculty but there is little campus life. Half the students are commuters and the rest go home for the weekend. There is no college feel to the town and it is almost a two hour train ride to Manhattan.

i'd say binghampton is the best. i know many people who go to stony brook (i live on LI) and they all hate it. the last time i talked to someone from stony brook, she wanted to transfer.

What about SUNY Oswega? Any opinions on this school?

By I1lmatics (I1lmatics) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 04:32 pm: Edit

if you are interested in premed or science related majors than stony brook is best for you

if you are intersted in business than binghamton is your best bet

for the best overall undergrad experience, buffalo.. it used to be a private school untill the state of new york recently bought it out so it goes to say that they have nicer amenities and such then a true state school

By I1lmatics (I1lmatics) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 05:12 pm: Edit

binghamton, buffalo, stony brook, and geneso woudl be considered the top tier of the nystate system hockiemom.. albany would be a lone second tier.. oswego along with many others (cortland, oneonta, plattsburgh, new paltz..ect) all can be considered third tier sunys

By Momx4 (Momx4) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 05:43 pm: Edit

True, Buffalo used to be a private college but it has been at least 40 years since SUNY bought it out, hardly recently.

By I1lmatics (I1lmatics) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 06:42 pm: Edit

yea but the way the administration is run is still very reminiscent of a private college it does stuff a lot more independantly than most other suny schools who resort to the suny center in albany

thats for graduate schools and those rankings strike me as being a bit odd.. stern is ranked 30 something? havard should be a lot higher up than 9 as it's mba is one of the most prestigous degrees you can obtain

"albany is more selective than buffalo"

no it's not buffalo can arguably claim the title as the best suny school.. from the princeton review "Although Binghamton is academically the most selective of the SUNY University Centers, Buffalo is in many ways closer to what other states reger to as the flagship of the state system"

bing, stony brook, buffalo and geneso are considred by most to be the top state schools.. albany is a tier down

I got into Stony Brook, Albany and Buffalo. It's real easy to get in though. Make sure your gpa is over 90 and your SAT scores over 1050 and you're basically set. For out of staters, choose another college cause these arent really worth going to except maybe Binghamton and Buffalo. Oh did I add they were my safeties? Still waiting on my acceptance from Binghamton. They are really easy to get in though so it can't be that tough. Good luck.
