It seems in every Engineering Ranking, Illinois-Urbana comes fourth, right after the mighty trio of MIT, Stanford and Berkeley. Is it really that great of an engineering school?, or is it just that it's best of many schools like it(uMIch/Purdue/CarnegieMellon/Cornell/etc.)

It is good--they are all good. For jobs any top 25 school will do just fine.

And those students who graduate from schools other than the top 25 usually go on to find jobs and have lives as well.

most of the top schools are about equal it's just that people get it stuck in their head that one school is the best and the rankings become frozen
