This is the summary: from the list of accepted schools, daughter has narrowed down choices to these three. BU has offered full tuition merit scholarship in University Professors program--research-oriented liberal arts program w. core courses --only approx. 35 students enrolled each year; accepted in UVA's Echols Scholar Program (many more students in Honors progam and all housed together freshman year, but out of state tuition without any aid; accepted at Chicago-no aid either. Her interest at this time is English (Creative Writing)-with either grad. school or law school possibly in the future--but maybe not. Questions: 1)Are the differences in "rankings", i.e. US News, worth the difference in tuition?
2) Of the three, UVA seems to be more balanced regarding the intellectual acquisition of knowledge and practical application, i.e.internships, etc. any thoughts?

That BU deal sounds mighty attractive to me, seniormom! The "rankings" difference, IMO, is not worth a major tuition difference. If you felt that one school was ideally suited to your daughter's needs, that would be a different question.

One suggestion - see if your daughter can talk to some students who have been in the University Professors program for a few years, just to insure the actual experience is what you are being told.

I am a student at UVa, and the Creative Writing program here is excellent. But, I probably wouldn't have gone here if I didn't get in-state tuition. However, if you have the money, it's worth it. Also, Charlottesville is one of the most beautiful, historic towns you'll ever visit.
