I'm applying as an English major, Bryn Mawr ED II. I have a few safeties (state schools in CA), but I would like to go to a small, liberal arts, women's college, that's in close proximity to a city without actually being in it, and has a somewhat pretty campus... basically I want to go to Bryn Mawr, or something like it if I don't get in. Any suggestions for a safety? Most women's colleges seem to be highly selective.
Er, Stats: - 1360 SAT, 3.5 uw, 710 (writing), 620 (french), 580 (IC, ick), much community service and much dedication to flute, piano, guitar, and lacrosse, not sure how I would rate my recs and essay, but I suppose they're rather good
-- for a rough estimate of what schools I could consider a safety, but comparable to Bryn Mawr, just less selective

Scripps or Mills in Calif maybe? Others: Hood College (Maryland), Hollins (Virginia), Agnes Scott (Georgia), Carlow College (PA), Mary Baldwin (VA), Randolph-Macon Woman's College (Va), Simmons (MA), Trinity College (DC). All would be varying degrees of safety schools for you, with the possible exception of Scripps which would be a match. For an excellent school near an urban area, you can't beat Agnes Scott (Atlanta). Hollins has a particularly good English department.

I like Wells College in New York and Sweet Briar as well.

Another vote for Simmons! Great academics, great location and alumni network...but not difficult to get in. A great safety for BMC. Hollins is another great choice, less urban, more traditional. good luck!

Thank you! That really helps a lot. I am particularly interested in Agnes Scott, Hollins, and Simmons. They also have pretty late application deadlines, so I can hold on applying till after I receive my ED decision (which works out really well). Any more personal opinions about the three in particular (information gathered from a campus visit, etc. not typically found in guidebooks)? Thank you again!

Hi,
Not sure, but Rosemont still might be a women's school... Rosemont used to be considered the "smaller Catholic Bryn Mawr".
Have you applied to any of the other Sister Colleges? Though, I imagine that they'd all be "good fits" rather than safeties.
Good luck and Best wishes! Let me know if you get into Bryn Mawr, I am class of 08!

Wellesley, darling, Wellesley! They love girls who do sports, it's a GORGEOUS campus, your crappy math score will be overlooked....it's perfect.
