Does anybody know schools that have particle accelerators?
A friend of mine wants to go into particles physics and was curious.

UW-Madison does.

Go to this link - it lists all the particle accelerators in the world, including the ones at schools in the US (such as Stanford, Indiana U, SUNY Stony Brook, UCB, etc.):

I believe Cornell has the largest in the world (I could definately be wrong about that) Its built under the football field and though I can't call my self a physics buff I find it quite cool.

no...Cal tech (CIT) has the largest in the world..i am very sure about that...in fact, i live pretty close to Cal Tech....

After doing a little looking I found out the world's largest is actually in Europe. However, I couldn't find anything that compared Cal-Tech's to Cornell's so its possible that it is bigger.

The world's largest particle accleator is in Sweden I believe so and is called the God Acclerator. A professor I know worked there, but newer ones are being build, so I might be wrong. Physics is the bomb, literally lol!

You're all wrong. The largest particle acclerator currently in OPERATION is Fermilab (named after Enrico Fermi) in Illinois (operated in conjunction with UChigago). However, CERN is due to bring online an ever bigger one within the next year or two, the Large Hadron COllector (www.cern.ch).

stanford has a massive one

I was told Cornell was the largest in the US. Oh well. It's big though, like Lmsgoodgirl said its under the football field.

I think Cornell's is atleast the biggest on the East Coast, but it is very possible that a school like Stanford or Caltech could have a bigger one.

My mistake, the biggest particle acclerator in the world is in fact Cern, which is being built in Switerzland. I always confuse Sweden w/Switzerland w/e! The project is being worked by what professors of wat unversity you say: hell yeah UMichigan! Go Wolverines! That's nick name will be called the God Acclerator, I read that somewhere...

it doesn't really matter where the biggest one is if it's not at a university
anyway what is a particle accelerator, i saw a show on Fermilab, which is the biggest, but i just remember it was big and underground
