Hi everyone,
I am a freshman at Birmingham-Southern College, an LAC in Birmingham, Alabama, and am going to be transferring either fall '04 or spring '05. At this point I'm fairly sure that I'll be staying in the southeast for my college years, so I'm considering Emory and Vanderbilt to transfer to.
Does anyone here have any personal experiences with either of these schools? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!

can you get in?

Most likely. I was accepted into most of the highly selective schools that I originally applied to, but had to stay in Birmingham for personal reasons.

Vanderbilt for everything except business.

I am sophomore at Vanderbilt and will be happy to answer any questions that you have. Vanderbilt has a more traditional and conservative campus; we have division 1 athletics and enroll more Southerners. Emory is more liberal and draws more students for the North and West. If you want to go to graduate school, I would recommend Emory. More students go on to Med. and Law. and the reputation is better. If you want to enter the workforce, especially in the Southeast, Vanderbilt is your best bet. It all depends on who you are and what you want to do. You really can't go wrong with either school.

Really nice observations and good advice, Brussels. As an asde, my D applied to Emory, but not Vandy, in part for the reasons you mentioned, Brussels. I would add that Vandy looked better for engineering, if that interests you. Either choice is a good one, however.
