Hey... I did not do so well in high school, mostly because I was lazy, and didn't think it was that important. I have a 71 GPA, and I got a 1060 on the SAT's 540 math and a 520 on verbal. I have applied to alot of 2 year SUNY school's. Although I know these schools are not where I want to go. So I am asking you guys what are some 4 year private schools that I can get accepted into with my GPA, and SAT's. Thanks for the help!

Try Hartwick College in Oneonta. Great school that is sometimes willing to take a chance on people with less-than-stellar stats. Juniata in Pennsylvania also sometimes overlooks poor grades if they see potential. Other possibilities: Elmira College (NY), Randolph-Macon College (Virginia - the coed not the women's college), Wagner College (NY), Adelphi (NY), Bryant College (RI), Manhattanville (NY), Washington College (MD), Goucher College (MD - if you are male especially), University of Bridgeport (CT), Marist College (NY).

I am in the same boat as you, my GPA is around the same, but I have a few advantages:
URM (black)
1390 SATs, 770v/620m
730 writing, 710 Lit, 610 U.S history
I've got some pretty good essays, and good recommendations, by teachers that see potential.
I really would like to get into Hendrix; I visited and they really rolled out the red carpet, only knowing my test scores, that I was black, and that I'm from New York, which is a very underrepresented state for them.
They're also recruiting me for track and field, but I'm still kind of skeptical, obviously I'm not a sure shot, but do I have any chance at all? I've heard that often they accept people way past the deadline because they don't have enough qualified applicants, and I'm hoping this is the case.
edit: I forgot that there is a "What are my chances?" board, so let me add a question so it is relevant, are there any schools in the south that fit the mold of the ones Carolyn posted above?

I would try Emmanuel College in MA. (Again, they would love male applicants since they just went co-ed a couple of years ago), or Catawba College in NC. Hartwick is great also. (Hopefully, I'll get in). It's not to late to apply to them yet!

Omg - you have an EXCELLENT shot at Hendrix. They are trying very hard to broaden their geographic base and your stats are perfect for them, even with a low GPA. Hendrix is a terrific school - you might try to get a hold of Loren Pope's book "Colleges that Change Lives" and read what he has to say. He found it to be a very welcoming place for minority students. Their financial aid is reputedly pretty good as well.
Other schools in the south worth a look for you:
Milsaps (Miss), Rhodes College (TN), Elon (NC),
Birmingham-Southern College (Alabama), Centre College (KY), Emory and Henry (virginia)
You might also take a look at Oxford College of Emory University. This is a two year school that is part of Emory - after two years graduates get an automatic transfer to Emory. Oxford has its own smaller campus and admissions. Good academics.

I was just sifting through the archives and I came across this post.
Bxian... my stats are very similar to your D's... It's almost scary! I have a 3.2/3.3 GPA(up from a 2.9 last year), 1140 SAT, 3 sports(well more like 5 but only 3 that I'm serious about), and pretty good EC's.
I only applied to, and been accepted to Marietta(OH) and Lynchburg. I'll be attending Lynchburg in fall of 2004.

Congratulations F3! My D is still waiting to hear from 3 schools-then will make her decision. The people at Lynchburg have been wonderful to deal with-I hope you have a wonderful experience there! She probably won't decide until the first week in April-but LC is still definitely on her list. Have you been to their campus? It is beautiful!
