We're back from our whirlwind tour of Florida schools and you folks made me look like a genius! While other parents were asking stupid questions that had been answered here and on the brochures, my son said that I didn't embarrass him with any stupid questions! Thanks again! Here's the list of schools we got a chance to visit, if any one has any questions and hasn't got a chance to visit yet.

Speaking of dumb parent questions: We were touring a campus in a group of parents and students. The tour guide identified one dorm as the "alternative" dorm. One loud, oblivious dad, who had already asked any number of inane questions, didn't quite get the "alternative lifestyle" connotation and quizzed the tour guide about the room sizes, etc. He then turned to his daughter and loudly asked, "Gee, Mandy, do you think you might like that dorm?" His poor daughter was the color of a beet and trying to shrink into her Nikes... No doubt HE got an earful when they got back to their car!

Glad to give you our impressions of Tampa. UT is right down town Tampa, among the skyscrapers, however you don't notice them as much as I thought you would. However, if your sensitive to downtown noise, you will notice this. The main acadmic building on campus is Plant Hall. At one time, Plant was a beautiful hotel. These days however, it's getting a little run down. Son wants to major in biology and we didn't think much of their science wing. They do have a beautiful new business building, very high tech, so if business is your projected major it might be worth a look. A very nice new dorm building/student union, with large rooms and great views overlooking the Hillsbourough River. A few of the older dorms looked like they needed some upkeep. I didn't ask, but if son were considering Tampa anymore, I'd be curious to know the crime statistics what with the campus being right down town.
