I have a 1470 on the PSAT's (hoping for around 1500 or so on the SATs) & straight A's. I am involved in a lot of activites including being a newspaper editor, & a writer for yearbook & most likely a magazine editor next year (I want to major in journalism, so those activities are related). I also volunteer and am a committee chairperson for a volunteer organization. What is the most impressive thing (besides raising my SAT score) that I can do?

Be black, native American, Hispanic or main island Puerto Rican.

Don't be off-main island Puerto Rican. A lot of people mess up on that. You only get points if you are MAIN ISLAND Puerto Rican.

I mean stuff I can control. Like joining an activity... A particular job. Attending a pre-college program. Anything like that.

What kind of college do you want to get into? Ivy?

Commit yourself to your current ECs and make something out of them. Colleges are more impressed by 2 ECs that you commit to rather then 100 ECs that you just have perfunctory association. Get good LORs from your teachers and write a good essay. Higher SAT wouldn't hurt.

And ignore people like Yoyo. Yoyo will probably be working as a generic white collar worker with cubicle. You will probably be his boss.
