Hello, everyone! I had a question... my friend is thinking of transferring to a CSU (California State University), but he doesn't know a lot about them. So... what would be the best CSU for a hospitality major? Also... what is (in general) the most prestigious/ overall best CSU (i.e. comparable to a UC, etc.)? Thank you all SO much!

Cal Poly Pomona has a hosptiality (hotel/restaurant) management program. There may be others but this is the only one I have seen on lists of "the best schools for..." In Nevada, the University of Nevada Los Vegas also has a good hospitality program.
Agree with Mulan - the most respected cal state is Cal Poly San Luis Obisbo.

Last minute question. We have 4 graduating seniors at work. One of the kids may have bit off her nose to spite her face. (mother/daughter conflicts) Anyway she didn't send out any UC CSU apps. Are any of the Cal states still accepting applications past the deadline? We know she can still apply to some privates and I think D realizes that she may have hurt herself more than she hurt mom. If anyone knows anything, I will pass it on. Thanks.

Yes, a number are still accepting apps. Go to CSUmentor.edu and poke around to find out which ones. Cal Poly, San Diego State, Long beach, Chico and Sonoma are all closed, but there's still a number which aren't

She can still apply to nearly all privates until Feb. 1 --- and some privates will accept applications right up until next August. Every year the National Association of College Admissions Counselors publishes a list of schools that still have openings after they've heard back from all of their accepted students. The link:
www.nacac.com - handy to keep just in case anyone gets rejected everywhere as well.
For the cal states, however, even the ones still open, she needs to get a move on quickly as some will be closing at the end of this month. When she looks at the web site Kluge mentioned, she should be sure to read the information about which majors are now closed to applications as well as which are closed to all applications: some have openings only in selected majors.

There are various rankings for hospitality management but the same three schools always are ranked somewhere among them. They are Cornell, which is an Ivy League school in New York, Purdue, which is a Big Ten school in Indiana, and Cal Poly Pomona, which is just outside Los Angeles, and is the only one of the three in a major metro area. That's the one I'd recommend because it is the highest rated with the lowest costs.
