Hi! I'm thinking about applying to Tufts, but I've never visited. I have visited Northwestern and LOVE it's location as far as proximity/access to Chicago as well as Evanston itself. I was hoping Tufts's location was similar...has anyone visited both schools?

Monstruo (Monstruo, I visitee both Northwestern University and Tufts University. Its very similar in which Evanston and Medford, are just 5 minutes away from huge cities. Tufts campus is more closed in meaning everything is right next to each other, and my dad explained each building is it own department. It seemed like a study oriented campus, just the fit for me :) I applied to Tuft ED I btw. Evanston was beautiful, but it was more widespread in my opinion, while Tufts was closed in. Both schools are known for their academics, butimo Boston would be a better city to have a social life. I am a Boston fan! Chicago is great, but not as great as Boston! Best of Luck!

I have a friend who goes to tufts and I visit him often. It is a very nice campus, very suburban and peaceful, with a lot of green space. But a word of warning, if you go there, be prepared to do a LOT of uphill walking, the tufts campus is very hilly. The location is good too, its situated right next to Davis square, which has a theatre, a great burrito place and virtually everything else you'll need. Even if you can't find what you want there, Harvard square is just a 10 minute subway ride, and boston itself is only a 30 minute sub ride.

From a recent Tufts alum:

Yes, Tufts is hilly. It's nicknamed "the Hill." There is a "Light on the Hill" award, a "Light on the Hill" ceremony for matriculants and graduates... you get the picture. Basically, Tufts is situated on the highest hill in the Boston area, and is divided infromally into "uphill" and "downhill" areas. (If you end up going there, you'll see that people tend to live either uphill or downhill, express strong preferences for one or the other, dine uphill or downhill, etc.)

Enough of the Hill. Tufts is a suburban campus, in a residential neighbourhood. It's a ten minute walk to Davis Square, and a shuttle runs between Davis and Tufts for those who do not like walking. Davis is pretty much like Harvard Square was years ago. A subway stop is in Davis, so it's a five minute ride to Harvard, ten to MIT, and about 30 to most of Boston.

Campus definitely has a suburban feel to it - it's quite safe... no one is scared to walk back from the library at 2 am.
