Is it hard to get accepted?
They haven't sent me any mail, it's awful. It's not like Harry Potter's ECs were that great. Stupid legacies.

They haven't sent you an owl yet?? You really should get in touch with them. After He Who Must Not Be Named restarted his quest to take over the world AGAIN last year, applications soared. But not to worry...Harry was just a special case. I mean, what with legacy and, as a baby, saving the world from impending doom, they really had to take him. Besides, I hear that if you're a "mudblood," you're a URM and may get special consideration. Still, your marks must be top-notch!

Yeah! It sucks that people make fun of those who enjoy the harry potter books! Its not our fault that we werent lucky enough to have them come out when we were 8. So what if they're childrens books? Id like to see you come up with such an awesome, completely original, detailed world like JK has.
BTW bmkn... lol my little cousin savannah is convinced that when shes eleven shes going to get a letter.... we're no sure how to break it to her... (shes 6 now lol)

Go Griffindor!

Have you guys ever considered a lot of what Rowling puts into her books? Hermione in mythology is the daugther of Helen (I believe). Minerva is the Roman name for Athene, goddess of wisdom. If you've read Joseph Campbell, you can recognize the hero cycle in the books. A good deal of the books are similar to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Give Rowling some credit!

I like how the person who initially criticized this thread was named "Puppy," which is a very stupid nickname.

I live in Surrey you know! Where Harry Potter lives in the books. Just a bit of trivia about me for you there... appreciate it!

I think it depends on who is running the school...
You see, if Slytherin controls the school, then it's extremely unlikely that any mudbloods would even be allowed into Hogwarts, much less given URM status. It's all a matter of how you look at things.
By the way, I have a 27,000 SAT I, and an average SAT II of 32,450 plus a 12.0 GPA, unweighted. I found a cure for cancer and a cure for AIDS for my ECs, and the President of the United States and God are doing my recs. Do you think I have a chance at getting into Hogwarts Early Decision?
Also, would it be easier for me to get in to Rivenclaw and then transfer to Gryffindor?

Not a chance. I believe you have to be in the sixth grade. However, if you're attempting to transfer, could be a possibility!

How's their scholarship program?
My parents are reluctant to pay much for out-of-state college, and I may be out of luck if they don't have good merit-based aid.

I was accepted last year, but I was a recruited athlete (Gryffindor chaser).

Dumbledore is a distant cousin. Of course, the psychics among you already knew that. I've put in a good word for Ughstinkysocks. If nothing else, the screen name makes him a valuable addition to the student body.

I wasn't making fun of Harry Potter--I love those books. I was saying that the people that WERE had a stick up their ass...

I think that was generally understood. The other snarky posts were also responding to posts preceding yours. At least that's what I would have marked on a critical reading test.
| By Ariesathena (Ariesathena) on Wednesday, December 03, 2003 - 07:27 pm: Edit |
LOL...
Has TheDaughter's SAT studying gotten to everyone in the house? Madame Pomfrey may be able to allievate some of those ills.

"Gotten to" is too strong but there's certainly a general awareness.
The D has likened TheMom to one of the Hogwarts teachers...I forget which...the one good with herbs and plants? TheD also takes pleasure in sharing a birthday with Hermione, whom I confess is truly something of a soulmate to her...likeable or annoying, depending on your point of view; JK Rowling agreed that she looked the part very well. I'm betting that either Hedwig or Crookshanks goes away to college with her. D could probably use Madam Pomfrey right now...fighting a cold with SAT's looming on Saturday.

Can I get a Hogwarts hoodie in Diagon Alley?

Ummm, I see there might be an issue of clarity. Like Antigone, I love the Harry Potter books, and was replying to Puppy's remark...
