I don't have any first-hand information of it myself but here's what I've gleaned from various sources: Strongest programs are in agriculture, architecture, business administration, communications, education, engineering, english, music and pre-law. Academics have been strengthened in the past decade and there are now lots of research opportunities for undergraduates. Median SAT for accepted students is 1095, median ACT is 24. Accepts about 90% of applicants. 12,000 undergraduates. Of those who start as freshman, 45% graduate 4 years later. Introductory classes are "huge with more than 100 students, but class size diminishes as you move up in your major" says the Kaplan Guide. Tuition is very low - even out of staters pay less than $10,000 a year. The Fiske Guide notes that "there is a good balance between academic and social activities with huge school spirit. Students at the U of A are of the small-town, 1950's Main Street variety. Arkansas residents make up 88 percent of the student body, 6% are african-american, 1 percent hispanic and another 3 percent asian american...Arkansas is prime Bible Belt territory, so vocal fundamentalist groups are in no short supply on campus...approximately 650 merit scholarships are available." A student in the Kaplan guide is quoted: "Hardly anyone does homework on friday or Saturday, an dmostly we try to see friends we didn't get to see all week and forget about school. Sunday is reserved for church and homework." Requred core curriculum includes courses in English, math, social sciences and electives, as well as proficiency in a foreign language. 45% of students (3/4 of freshman) live on campus. All dorms are single-sex except for one coed by floor dorm. 25 Greek organizations (frats and sororties) are most dominant social presence.
Hope this helps somewhat.
