From what I've heard, stanford seems to be a place full of rich, ultra-liberal, overambitious pre-professional preps. True? Not a bad thing. Just a different kind of people I'd like to be associated with.

That is unfounded. Not all of them are ultra-liberal.

There is a wide variety of students at pretty much all US colleges. However, Stanford is often regarded as somewhat conservative, especially when compared with its cross-bay rival, UC Berkeley. Berkeley is where you will find ultra liberal.
It's been said that Stanford alums celebrate a football victory over Berkeley by giving their butlers the day off.

And they're actually not all rich. The average median household income of UC Berkeley's student population is higher than that of Stanford's [student population].

Another query about Stanford. Everyone knows Stanford has one of the best engineering programs in the country, but what about physics? I hear biology is really great at Stanford, but havent heard much about physics.

Stanford has excellent physics, tied for number one with Caltech in some rankings.

i'll start by saying i'm a berkeley student. make of that what you will.
not everyone at stanford are ultra-liberal, tree hugging hippies. and no, not everyone at stanford are rich and spoiled (they tend to meet the financial needs of many, so relative to other private schools, it's not much of a "rich boy" school). there are all kinds of people at stanford. i've had lunch many a time there on campus (i'm not a traitor, my dad went to stanford) and the student body seems quite spirited, involved, and lively. i did see some "rich kids" there but there are rich kids everywhere.
on the other hand, cal beat stanford in the big game...so if anyone asks, my official response is that stanford sucks.
