im transferring for spring 2004 and im torn between u of miami and rutgers new bruns. im an art major and i have about a year and a half of credit. ive all ready been accepted to both, i just dont know which to go for. I applied to rutgers b/c im fron nj and its cheap. i applied to miami b/c i have family near by, alumni of the school and it would just be fun. but im not sure if miami would be worth the cost.
any comments would be appreciated

miami has a much much better campus and atmosphere. Job oppurtunities are probably really good too since its located right outside a major city. I don't really know anything about art programs tho..

Miami= perenially good football team
Rutgers= perenially bad football team
Miami= mid-size, beautiful year-round, great party scene, more diversity
Rutgers= HUGE (over 50,000 students total), almost all in-state kids, located in New Brunswick, which is not that exciting yet close to NYC.
I'd say Miami, but Rutgers would probably suit you fine as well.

Your first obligation is to your major, and I have no knowledge of art so you can probably figure that out for yourself. I'd say Miami if you can afford it, because I'm from NJ too, and I think Miami would be muchhh nicer in terms of environment that Rutgers. I mean, NEW BRUNSWICK, not very exciting, and Rutgers has been having some problems lately with their party scene, hasn't it? People ending up in hospitals, seriously injured... oh the joy.

I dunno much about rutgers, but I can tell you a little about UM since I live pretty close and I'm considering applying there, though not for art, but as a premed. (I am a good artist however and the campus offers good vibes and a lot of inspiration)
I visited the campus recently, and the campus itself is very nice, lots of palms and lakes, and shady areas, an ideal setting for working. There is also a plethora of things to do in Miami and S. Florida in general, and the weather is nice and breezy at times, but often gets too muggy and humid during summer. The dorms look kinda run-down to me, though I didn't go inside. Also, the school is set in a safe residential community but in an unsafe area- its in inner-city miami, and driving is a nightmare
