I was wondering if SDSU (San Diego State University) has a good program for CS?

Computer Science at SDSU is not particularly strong. And, keep in mind that many departments at SDSU are impacted, meaning getting classes can be impossible. Many SDSU students take five years to graduate. There are other schools in the cal state system that would be better for CS. If you want to be in the San Diego area, try Cal State San Marcos for example. Other cal states with good CS programs: Cal Poly San Luis Obisbo, Cal Poly Pomona, Monterey Bay,
Stanislaus, Hayward. If your grades are good enough, UCI.

DO NOT GO TO SDSU!!! I have heard nothing but bad things about them and you'll only graduate in 5 years if you are lucky

Don't dwell on everything negative people have to say about SDSU. I wanted to go to USC but I didn't have financial aid there, so I actually accepted SDSU (it worked out for USC though). I was a college snob, though, and the thought of going to SDSU made me embarrassed. However, because I was almost going there, I visited frequently and reseached it a lot. I actually found out that the academics are increasing, even though a lot of people don't know it. Some of their programs are actually really good. The staff is also really nice. I got into the Honors program where I got many benefits. One of these included priority registration. A lot of people don't graduate in four years, but I learned from administration that a main reason is that some students aren't flexible with their schedules. They won't take an 8 am class or a Friday class. If you are more flexible, or get into the Honors program, you can graduate in four years. I actually don't know how good their CS program is, though, sorry.

SDSU has some excellent departments. I received my MBA from their business school and was very happy with the quality and level of the program.
SDSU can't be beat for teacher education and their communications program is decent as well.
But, speaking as an alumni, SDSU does have its share of problems. It's not the school to go to if you want personal attention, good academic advising, small classes, flexibility, or alot of choice in which classes you are able to take. And, the administration readily admits that the recent budget crisis is having a greater impact on SDSU classes and programs than at some of the smaller cal state schools. The honors program mentioned above may be a way around many of these problems but if you're not in that program I can vouch from personal experience that the difficulty in getting classes has very little to do with not being willing to be flexible to different class times. In impacted programs like business, you sometimes end up glad to just take whatever classes you can get. The school is vastly over-enrolled and it is getting worse not better. Bottom line: you can get a good education at SDSU but doing so requires a high level of assertiveness and self-motivation.
