Well, it's a Jesuit (Roman Catholic) school with two campuses. The main campus, Rose Hill, is in the Bronx. While it is located in a not-so-great area, the campus itself is very attractive and relatively safe. The Manhattan part is located near Lincoln Center - the emphasis there is on the performing arts and it can be difficult to major in anything else from that location.
Academics are very good. Particularly strong programs in business (lots of internship possibilities in metro ny area), theology, pre-law, communications. Theater at Lincoln Center is also good. It's easy to take the subway into Manhattan from the Rose Hill campus.
Most students hail from the tri-state area (NY-CT-NJ) and many go home on weekends. It can be hard to find on campus housing once you're past sophomore year. Students tend to be conservative and the religious aspect is strong at the Rose hill campus where Jesuit priests teach many of the classes.
All in all, Fordham is a solid school that isn't intensely competitive to get into - about 9000 students apply each year, they accept 6000. Test scores: V 530-630, M 520-620, Act: 22-27, 27% in top 10 percent of class, 63% in top 25%.
