My dream job is to be a professor of history at a college. Before I do that though I have to learn about history. I am a student at a CT community college with a GPA of 3.75. I have little funds to pay for school. I am searching for a school in the northeast(prefer CT)that I can get a Bach.in His. I need this school to have a good program so that when I apply to schools for my Mas.+Doc. I am not laughed at. Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Private schools with respected history programs: Bates (Maine), Dickinson (PA), Drew (NJ), Hamilton, (NY), Gettysburg (PA), Hobart & William Smith (NY), Juniata (PA), Muhlenberg (PA). You would probably be able to get a financial aid package from all of these schools. If you'd prefer a public school, most of the SUNY schools (especially Binghamton, Brockport, New Paltz and Oneonta) have good history departments, as does Rutgers in New Jersey. In CT, Central Connecticut has a good history department.

Wesleyan (in middletown, CT) takes a certain number of students from CT comm. colleges as a policy. They're pretty good with financial aid if there's a need. It's a great school, and would definitely be an asset when looking for grad schools.

A pretty good college which has courses via the internet and has locations in Dobbs Ferry NY, Bronx NY, New York New York, etc and has a low tuition rate per semester (I beleive it is $5,250 a semester... considering my UG was way higher than that it seems cheap to me)... plus my friend got accepted there and received a nice financial aid package is mercy college. Check them out:

For those who are in a rush to get a degree, Mercy College offers an Accelerated One Year BS program in Organizational Management and a One Year MS in Organizational Leadership. Many of their programs can be completed entirely over the internet!!! Seems pretty cool and my friend likes it...
Good Luck!

P.S. The first link is for Mercy College's History Department. The rest is some personal feedback from what I saw on their website. Mercy College may be an ideal choice as well since it is not that far from CT (depending on where you are at) plus the main campus has dorms. Mercy seems to have great medical and liberal arts programs as well which I feel is not bad for the price. If you are looking for a "University", Pace University offers a "freeze" in tuition... what this means is once you enter the tuition you start off paying is what you will pay for your 4-5 years of study there. If you get a scholarship plus any other aid you are pretty much set for your undergraduate years. Check them out as well:

I'm very familiar with both Mercy College and Pace University, having taken courses there myself. I would not call either an exceptional school by any means. They are both third tier schools, although Pace does have a decent business program. They are both OK if one is seeking to quickly finish a degree program or is a working adult, but, if, as the original poster does, you're hoping to get into a good graduate school and eventually teach at a decent college, Pace and Mercy should be towards the bottom of the list, especially for history or other social sciences, in my opinion. The original poster could definitely do much much better.
