Greetings, I'm a new poster. My ds is a senior in hs and really wants to be a rock star! He is in a band and they play regularly at local gigs and are working on a full length CD. Six songs are completed. Their drummer is a freshman at BU and the other 2 members are juniors in hs. I'd love to hear from other families who are in a similar situation. My son does want to go to college and is interested in staying in the music industry. He also wants to stay in the Boston area so that the band can still practice. He is most interested in Northeastern. The only other school that has a similar program in the area is UMass-Lowell. These 2 schools couldn't be more different! We are looking for a few other choices in the area. Perhaps good business schools with a music program. I'd love to hear from other families with kids into the rock scene. Have they been able to combine their music and college. Have they had success after they graduate?

I've heard that Emerson in Boston is a great school for rock star wannabes. But, it definitely has a unique culture all its own. University of Denver offers a degree in Commercial Music. The students can concentrate on recording engineering, music business, or studio music performance. It's one of the few that I've researched that allows students to concentrate on areas other than audio engineering. Hope this helps!

A good source for information about schools offering degrees or programs in music and entertainment management can be found at www.artsnet.org Berkelee College of Music in Boston has an excellent music and entertainment management program. Another school I remember from the list as having a music management program is the University of Hartford.
