My daughter is a junior, and we are seeking advice as to what colleges she should consider. She has a weighted 4.5 G.P.A., unweighted 4.0 from a large public school in Southern California (has taken all available honors and A.P. classes so far; SAT V-770 M-690 (first try—plans to take it again to see if she can break 700 in math), a couple of regional and a national award for writing, and her extracurricular “thing” is theater, though she does not want to major in performing arts in college. She’s been doing community theater since she was nine years old, and she has accumulated 400 hours of theater work in high school in both acting and tech. She’s also president of the drama club and has been editor of the club newsletter. She hates cold weather, and doesn’t want to leave California (though she might consider Oregon). She would prefer a small, private school, but would consider U.C. Any suggestions on best schools for her? What would be a “safety” school she should consider? Thanks so much for any advice.

Whitman College in Washington State has a wonderful theater program that allows non-majors to get involved. They also have a superb academic reputation that is growing.
In Oregon, Lewis & Clark and Williamette might be possibilities.
In California, Pomona, Pitzer, Pepperdine.
