I'm still not sure about what kind of Engineer i wanna be, i keep changing my mind but at the moment im leaning torwards Materials Science and Nanotechnology.

If you're applying to Stanford and Berkeley, you'll want to apply to Cornell as well. UIUC and Michigan are fine public schools if you want to go that route, but if you don't get into Berkeley, I don't know if they're worth leaving California for -- ucla or ucdavis will offer equivalent opportunities.

All of you -- go to umich. They'll offer you a GREAT education, and best of all, they offer the BEST chances at getting a job after college. UM is the most heavily recruited school in the nation, and ranks NUMBER 1 in engineering recruiting -- top that MIT.
Here's a message I wrote earlier:
Hello, I'm Junior at UofM-Engineering. From what I've noticed, it is hard to believe another school can prepare you for any challenges better than UofM-Engineering. The professors are very knowledgeable, the atmosphere is competitive, but also very sociable, and there is a steep learning curve.
For those of you that are interested, the Median grade for UM-Engineering is C+/B-. The competition is VERY fierce. For instance, I recently took an exam that I believed was "Medium" in difficulty (meaning there was an even proportion of easy, medium, and hard problem) -- The median on that exam was an 89/100. The students here are committed to excelence and are willing to give up 2-weeks to study for a single exam. The workload is very heavy, I'm currently taking 14 credits and average about 60-70 hrs worth of work a week. I once took 17 credits and put in about 80 hrs. on average. Yes, that is quite a bit, but that is the kind of dedication needed to maintain a high GPA.
One area that I think coming to U of M that is great is the recruiting. We get TONS of recruiters. I've been told that UM-Engineers often significantly outperform ivyleague students when it comes to technical interviews and job success. I was also told by a few companies that UM students tend to do far better when they conduct formal evaluations.
UM-Engineering is indeed a lot of work. But, if you're willing to put in that work, you'll gain so much. As far as the comparison between UM-Engin and other schools, such as MIT, I think UM-Engin has the same competitive spirit as the other schools, but the social life here is better. You WILL enjoy UM-Engin and they are always ranked high with recruits. Make no doubt about it, this is one of the most prestigious schools in all the world. Only downside is the LSA program which has killed our ratings -- but UM-Engin is a totally different school and should be ranked separtly.

If you're interested in something non-traditional, look at Olin College of Engineering. My daughter is a freshman there, likes the hands-on work, and we all like the four year full tuition scholarships.

i would love to goto u mich...........btw u mich says it doesnt accpet sat iis.......but i have some great sat ii scores.........is there a way i can tell them about it?
My sat score of 1330( 1360-different sitting) is below avergae for some schools i m applying to......but the thing is i got 760 in math( just 570 in verbal...)..........so if you are applying to enginnering schools shouldnt my sat math score overlook my poor verbal score?

dont know what i want to be but im putting engineering for my major in apps. Applying to:
Stanford (EA), Caltech, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC
I've been told to go into the engineering field because i really like math and am good at it (800m, 5's Calc AB/BC). Hopefully I wont have to switch majors. Good luck to you all

For engineering you have to love Math and Science, not just math. You should look up some math-related careers before deciding on engineering.

Miseryxsignals,
UCLA is notoriously weak at engineering, compared to other California schools. Stanford, CalTech, Berkeley, and USC are much, much better than UCLA. The good news is that with 800 Math SAT, you should have no problem getting accepted to Berkeley and/or USC. Good luck!

800 SAT Math is nothing too incredible. It's a easy test and this is a common score. My friend didn't answer 8 questions and still got a 800.
Anyway, it's nothing that will get you solely into a school- you need much more than that.
