McGill(Montreal, canada) University is my dream school in pretty much every aspect. However, I am going for Computer Engineering. How good is McGill in CE compared to the American top engineering schools? If you dont know can you just tell me how 'good' it is in computer engineering? thx for all the help

It's not a super power in engineering. PERIOD. There are schools in Canada which are better, try Waterloo or U of T. If McGill can't compete with Canadian schools, just forget how it'll fair against other schools.

Waterloo is a world leader in the Putnam contest, beating out Harvard and many of the world's other top players. U of T is simply super for any type of engineering, and any type of engineering work there is world class. They work you like dogs there, and when you graduate, you're definitely a leg above many others.

McGill is way overrated, it has nice buildings, bi-lingualism and all. But other than that, it's just as crowded as any other U in Canada. It's quality of education is only mentionable in it's faculty of Med, and even there, the UBC, Queens and U of T has outperformed it.

If you're still bent on entering it... It has been a dream of yours for THAT long, then my answer is that, it's not a bad school to attend. But it's not outstanding either. It wouldn't be on my list if i wanted to be an engineer. It would be on my list if i wanted to go Med though.

By the way, UofT actually did better than Waterloo in the Putnam contests. These are the number of times each University has taken the #1 spot for the Putnum competition between 1938 and up to 2003:
