so i'm stuck here at Rensselaer at the moment, doing engineering, which unforutunatly i have grown to hate. this message got deleted on me the first time, so excuse me if i abbreviate it. right now i am beginning to work on transfer applications for UCONN and the University of Hartford. being from CT, i have decided that i dont want to be quite so far from home for many reasons. my problem now is that i have to choose a major. i think i may apply as a business major, but i am not sure if that would be a very good idea because im not entirely sure if i would like it. what i am hoping for is some input about those schools, some more detail about being a business major, and any other suggestions you all might have. thanks

jon

UConn is a great school and they have just recieved another billion dollars from the state government to improve the school, so thats 2.3 billion in improvements over the past decade. The great thing about a school like that is that you have lots of room to move around if you decide that business is not for you.My mom is an alumni. So just give it a shot if its what seems would be best for you at the moment and then just go from there. I am considering going there too. My grandparents live in West Hartford which is obviously near Univ of Hartford, its all a nice area.

Jon,
Do you have to specify a major in order to transfer? Can't you just say undecided? You might email the admissions office and ask if this isn't clear on the application information. In any case, even if you have to list a major you can always change from business later if you don't like the coursework. Good luck.

What sort of things do you REALLY enjoy? Follow that line, not a high job earnings line, in your thinking for a potential major. If you study the topics you enjoy, you will be able to turn them in to lifetime work you enjoy.

I started college thinking I'd major in art. I took an anthropology course and ended up majoring in anthro, with minors in art and French. I thought I'd continue in grad school and become an archaeologist.

I switched to library science in grad school and an now a librarian. I use my anthropology background all the time in my work, which I enjoy immensely.

So . . . follow what you love to do, not just the money.
