Im currently a senior in high school. I was hoping you all could recommend to me some very good engineering schools for a person who isnt taking the SAT II. I hope to raise my SAT score to at least a 1360 so if you could tell me good schools for the score I have now and good schools for if I raise it, it would be appreciated.

GPA 4.0 UW no weighting at my school. Sharing with about 10 people though.
SAT 630 math 590 verbal (taking 2 more times)
ACT 28 composite (taking 1 more time)
My school only offers 3 AP classes (2 of those are two semester long classes as opposed to 1 semester). Last year they had Calculus as an honors class and is now AP. I took it last year and got a 3 on the AP test (highest in my class that took it).

I'm also doing Post Secondary Enrollment Option at Sinclair Community College my senior year taking Astronomy, Western Civ 0-1300, Astronomy Lab, and College Algebra (long story why im in there) Total of 12 credit hours at college plus my class at High School. Im also going to take English Comp 1 and 2, College Physics 1 and maybe 2, Astronomy 2 and 3, and General Chem 1 and 2. I hope to at least. I had to withdraw from one class unfortunately.

ECs
math tutor 11, 12
going to tutor a friend in government here soon 11
nhs [twirls finger] 11, 12 (only years allowed in)
Book Club 11 (only year offered)
Science Olympiad 11, 12 (only years offered)
15 hours community service 11, 12

Work 20 hours a week or more sometimes.

The only things I could really say that I got as an achievement is I placed 3rd in "Write it Do it" at the Piqua regionals last year. Really good for a first year team and my partner had an asthma attack and someone came in that had no clue what they were doing.

I know this probably sounds like a "What are my chances" thread but I'd like some colleges that I could get a match or reach too. Right now Purdue and UD are my safeties pretty much since I've been accepted to Purdue and I have so many family members that have gone to UD its crazy.

I'd really like to have a shot at Stanford or Yale. I know Yale doesnt accept credit from Sinclair though. I dont know about Stanford. I dont know either if they do not need SAT IIs. But I'd like recommendations to some good match/reach schools. Thanks

You should consider University of Illinois, the 3rd ranked engineering school in the country. Your test scores are low (the average ACT is 32), but you have strong grades, which will help you. Don't get your heart set on Stanford or Yale; they're almost impossible to get into. I hope you'll take a look at U of Illinois, here's their website www.uiuc.edu

Rather than take the SATs two more times, just bite the bullet and take three SAT-2s... Writing, Physics, and one of the Maths. You shouldn't be taking the SAT-1s twice in your senior year.

You don't have very good odds for Yale or Stanford, but it never hurts to apply. You might get lucky.

Look at Ohio State--they have a fine engineering program. You might be make the cut off for the honors program w/ an ACT of 28. You'd have a better chance of OSU taking your Sinclair credits. Have you looked at Case Western? The SAT II's aren't that bad.

I really dont want to take the SAT-II's I'd rather just take the SAT two more times. I've already signed up for it so i'd have to go through the hassle of late fees and such. Im more focused on raising my SAT score (using Kaplan study guides and stuff) than the SAT II. Thats why I was looking for schools that might take ACT instead or something.

Chrisd, i'll look into OSU, all schools in Ohio accept credit from Sinclair. I was kinda looking for out of state. Thanks though :)

Get test scores up if possible. The following are some of the very good engineering schools that do not require SAT II's (engineers that I know who hire engineers actually tell me they would rather hire from these places than Stanford, Berkeley, Cornell, Yale); order is not intended to reflect anything:

Illinois
Michigan
Rose-Hulman
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Colorado
North Carolina State
Iowa State
Purdue
Texas
Texas A&M
Georgia Tech
Virginia Tech

Note that Stanford does not require SAT II's but does recommend them. At Yale you can submit the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and SAT II's.

Drusba. Thank you for that list. I will definately check those schools out. I've already checked out Rose-Hulman and it seems like a good school. If I can raise my SAT scores up high enough I may apply to Stanford. Same with the ACT and Yale. But thats only if I raise them.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institue is a great engineering school that does not require SATII's...

U of Michigan is excellent. I got into U of M Engineering. I applied in late September. 1380 SAT I. 4.0 UW. Female. Tons of Ecs and a good rec. I took SAT IIs.
