Any thoughts o U o Chicago? People recommended the school to me and the campus is very pretty. Uh, that's all I know so far. What else?

Did you look at the Chicago posts here? There are a lot of long and very informative posts by a current student who loves it. It's an intensely intellectual place, with a strong core curriculum requirment.

All I know is that UChicago supposedly has some of the weirdest/hardest essay questions ever.

My cousin attends Chicago, he's a classics major and loves it, but he says that its a very studious place. If you're someone who enjoys the world of academia, you're intellectually curious, and a good writer, than Chicago might be the place for you.

Beautiful campus, very difficult to get into. Chicago has more grad students than undergrads. What are your stats?

Hey U Chicago is my first choice! I went to research there and absolutely loved the campus...the neighborhoods are segregated but they're generally safe from what i've heard...plus one of the surrounding neighborhoods, hyde park, is supposed to be for the rich and has always been for the rich. to me it's the actual campus that matters but surroundings can play a factor as well. i'm glad you're liking chicago. i'm a sophomore from MA by the way. what grade are you?

Stuff I'm worried about:
- I've worked my butt off in high school. I'm not sure I want to spend 4 more years at "the place where fun comees to die."
- I heard it's a math/science-ish type school. I'm studying for law school and leaning more towards the liberal arts persuasion.
Otherwise, it does sound like a me-type school. I go to Starbucks to play Scrabble and talk about foreign politics on Friday nights. Thank goodness for frappucinos and white chocolate mocha.

"the place where fun goes to die"
I've heard this a lot of times before and can never decide what to make of it. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? You could view it like "the fun stops here", or you could view it like Vikings going off to Valhalla or Kilingons going off to Stovlcor or Buddhists going to Nirvana.
And whose idea of fun is being referenced? A fun event for physicists or mathematicians might be sound like a prison sentence to people who don't share their interests.

Addendum:
Gianscolere: I'm a senior
more concerns:
- What about theatre at U of Chicago? I know Chicago definately fulfills that, but what about on campus? Will I have time for theatre and MUN?
- What type of students do they look for? Well-rounded? Well-lopsided? Conservative thought? Liberal thought?
- What exactly do they require in the core? I heard it scares people away - how?
