Hi there. I'm sorry but something is really annoying me about this message board. I appreciate the exchange of college facts and everything but what is with people posting gpas of 3.9 and sat scores of 1450 and still complaining that they won't get in places? And what makes it worse is that everyone agrees. If people like YOU (with such scores) are not accepted to high colleges--then who is? It's ridiculous how everyone belittles themselves. You're all amazing students, so it really sickens me. Just thought I'd say that.

Very true, people here complain way too much, I would kill for their SAT scores. College does not determine the rest of your life.

Xyz, that was the funniest thing I read all day. In sentence #1 you claim that you'd kill for their (our) SAT scores, and in sentence #2 you correctly attempt to belittle the importance of college.

So which one is it?

Should we split the board up into one for 1400+ SAT students and one for the rest? Are you saying that students with decent SAT scores should become overconfident and say "gee, I have a 1450. No school would ever reject me"?

I don't think XYZ's saying that. But what I do know is that I'm getting sick of people complaining when their scores are quite good. You don't need to be pompous and shove it in our faces but it's not necessary to degrade yourself when so many did not achieve such a score.

someone's getting cocky up there....

Ok, 1470. 3.86. Why do I complain? Worked my a** off in high school and I want to see that get paid off. Also, I really don't know how I stand against other people applying to my choice schools. From talking w/others from my school, it seems like lots of those people applying to schools "below" the ones I will apply to are much smarter than I am. So yeah, I'm worried. Sorry if that's too difficult to understand.

Yeah, some of you guys need to chill out about college. It's nice that you did well in high school, give yourself a pat on the back, but don't come whining to other people saying that you didn't get into Harvard. Just getting into college doesn't mean a thing. When you apply for your first job, they will look at what college you went to and how well you did, but that doesn't say a whole lot about someone. You can go to Harvard and slack off or you can go to a mediocre college and work hard and learn a lot. There's more to being successful than simply what college you went to.

I'm not saying I nned to go to Harvard at all. I'm saying I'd like to go to a good college. But even with those, I'm walking in with a blindfold.

A 3.9 and a 1450 are far from a golden ticket. Even people with good stats have trouble getting into the selective schools.

By Antigone (Antigone) on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 05:00 pm: Edit

very selective, ivy league--yes. But selective does not necessarily mean best. There are soo many other schools to consider that have endless possibilities but some kids base all of their college choices over what's rated the best and how many people the stuffy administrators let in. The fact is, if you have those stats, you will be getting into a college and more than likely, a very good one. It might not be ivy league but that's overrated anyway.

No.. like click said. Those stats may not necessarily get you anywhere very selective (as you said) these days.
